Juniperberry 100% - (Juniperus comminus)

This scent is refreshing and slightly woody. The evergreen shrub is normally grown to around 2 metres and has a red coloured stem with needle like leaves. It has small yellow flowers in season, and green berries that ripen to blue- black in summer. The essential oil is steam extracted from the shrub's berries.

Juniper had great value as a medicine against contagious diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever and the plague in Tibet and in Europe. It is considered non-toxic but since it can stimulate the uterine muscle it should not be used during pregnancy, nor by people with kidney problems. It is non-sensitizing but some people do have a reaction to it, and it is generally wise to us this oil in moderation.

Juniper oil has been used to calm the nerves, relieve anxiety, nervous tension and mental exhaustion, eliminate uric acid and relieves pain in cases of gout, rheumatism and arthritis; it is also an insect repellent.
